Meet the Director

Jeff Gagstetter

A 1997 graduate of Eden Prairie High School, Jeff was a two-sport athlete — and could have been three, stepping away from hockey after two years on the Bantam A team. He was a two-year starter for the Eagles football team, capping his high school gridiron career by helping lead Eden Prairie to its very first Football State Championship in school history. On the diamond, Jeff was a three-year varsity baseball player and two-year starter who earned a spot in the Eden Prairie American Legion starting lineup as a 15-year-old. Recruited to play both sports collegiately, he chose baseball at St. Cloud State University.

Jeff began his coaching career at age 19 while playing town ball, starting a lifelong dedication to player development.

Eden Prairie Legion

Head Coach · 2001–2008

Led one of the premiere Legion programs in the state to four consecutive state championships — 2004 (World Series 5th place), 2005, 2006, and 2007 (World Series runner-up). Along the way, Jeff coached over 10 NCAA Division I athletes, 20+ Division II athletes, and 6 players who went on to play professionally, including Nate Hanson, whom he began coaching at age 16.

Hopkins High School & Legion

Assistant Varsity Coach · 2002–2007

Served on staff alongside Neil Lerner (current Head Coach at Concordia University, St. Paul) while also coaching the Hopkins Legion program.

Chanhassen Varsity Staff

Now serves on Nate Hanson's varsity staff — bringing his career full circle to coach alongside his former player.

Youth Development & Personal

Rooted in Youth Baseball

Jeff stepped back from high-level high school coaching for a period to focus on raising his family, returning to the dugout when his son turned six and guiding those teams through the youth ranks. He coached his son's team every year — keeping the group together and, for the most part, away from club ball. His dedication to local youth sports extended into leadership roles with Bloomington Traveling Baseball.

Board Leadership

Bloomington Traveling Baseball · 3 Years

Served on the Board of Directors as the Director of Player and Coach Development.

Off-Season Training

Winter Warm-Up Camps · 4+ Years

Organized and led Bloomington's Winter Warm-Up player development camps, ensuring young players received top-tier off-season instruction and preparation.

Family

Biggest Supporter

Jeff's son, an entering sophomore at Bloomington Jefferson High School, is his biggest supporter — and the biggest fan of his coaching at Chanhassen.
